Chapter Joins DVHS Relay For Life to Honor Cancer Survivors
Each year, Relay For Life brings communities together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost, and raise funds to fuel the fight against cancer. This spring, the Contra Costa County ACS SEL chapter joined the Dougherty Valley High School Relay For Life event, fielding a chapter team alongside DVHS student organizers for a night of walking, remembrance, and community.
Members took shifts on the track throughout the event, participating in the Survivor Lap, the Caregiver Lap, and the Luminaria Ceremony — where bags lit in memory of those lost to cancer lined the track in a moment that drew quiet reflection from everyone present.
The collaboration with DVHS was a natural one. Several of our chapter members are current or former DVHS students, and the school's Relay For Life has a strong track record of community turnout. Joining forces let both groups amplify their reach and make the night more impactful.
All funds raised through our team's participation go directly to the American Cancer Society to support cancer research, patient services, and advocacy programs. We're grateful to the DVHS Relay For Life organizers for welcoming us, and we plan to make this an annual collaboration.
